SPG has a very flexible transfer policy in that you can transfer Starpoints to any person that shares your home address for a minimum of 30 days prior to requesting the transfer. You can transfer any amount of points to that other person and there are no transfer fees.

On June 1, 2016, I requested online a transfer of SPG points from Rob’s SPG account to my SPG account.  I needed some extra points to complete our booking for our upcoming trip to LA this December.  SPG tented the reservation while I was waiting for the points to come in.  Soon after I requested the transfer, I received this email from SPG…

“We’re working on your request to transfer Starpoints® to another member’s SPG® account. Please allow up to five business days for this request to be completed.

If you didn’t make this request, please let us know right away by sending an email to [email protected].

Thank you for traveling with SPG.”

The transfer came through today, June 7, 2016, the fifth business day.  However, the fact that Starwood is willing to tent your reservation till you get the points, makes this time lag irrelevant anyway.  You just need to make sure you “re tent” if you do not have the points in your account on the date that the reservation is set to expire.

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
