A Weekend of Mishaps and Coffee: How a Hotel Made It Right

This past weekend, we stayed at the Park Hyatt Chicago for a quick getaway, and while the trip was lovely overall, we had one of those mornings where everything went hilariously wrong—but somehow, it worked out in the end.

The Coffee Conundrum

It all started when Rob decided to order room service coffee for us at 6am. After all, with my Globalist status, this indulgence is covered by our free breakfast, so one large pot of coffee, please! However, when Rob called room service, he accidentally ended up on a three-way call with the front desk and the room next door.

Yes, you read that right. Our poor neighbors were woken up by Rob’s 6am coffee order—and just when we thought the confusion was resolved, the hotel delivered the coffee to their room instead of ours. Cue more apologies from both sides, awkward exchanges, and general embarrassment all around.

A Surprise Credit

Fast forward to checkout, and the hotel surprised me with a $75 credit as an apology for the mix-up. The kicker? Nothing really happened to us. The hotel was clearly trying to make things right, maybe it was because of my status, but I couldn’t help but wonder if they extended a similar courtesy to our neighbors (fingers crossed that they did).

Final Thoughts

These little mishaps reminded me why I love staying at Hyatt properties. Mistakes happen, but the way they’re handled makes all the difference. The Park Hyatt Chicago went above and beyond to make up for what was really just a funny (if slightly awkward) series of events.

Now, I’m just hoping our neighbors got a credit too. They definitely deserve it after their unexpected wake-up call!

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
