Earn Airline Miles Instead of Rewards Points at Choice Hotels

As a members of the Choice Privileges Rewards Program, we know you can earn Choice Privileges points when staying at a Choice Hotel. In fact, Choice Privileges members earn (depending on the brand of Choice Hotel) five or ten points for every eligible dollar spent. But what if you are in the market for airline miles instead?

Although the earning capacity for miles on a stay at a Choice property is much less than the earning capacity for Choice Hotel points, Choice Privileges has a number of airline programs in which you can opt to earn miles during your stay instead of Choice Privileges points.  The number of miles you earn on your stay depends on the airline. Most are about 250 miles per stay.  You can view the airlines and mileage earning potential here.

I want to point out that this option would probably only be worth doing if you are really trying to accumulate airline miles on a certain airline and are only staying a couple of nights at a Choice Hotel. The five points per dollar spent if you opt for Choice Privileges points will likely be many more than 250 miles!

Ways to Use Choice Privileges Points to Book Free Travel

Now that you have accumulated all of these Choice Privileges Points, how can you use these points for free travel? The options are listed below.

1. Redeem Points For Free Nights

You can use your points to stay at any Choice Hotel.  Note that the reward nights that you use, count towards Choice Privileges Elite Status.

2.  Redeem your points for reward nights at Preferred Hotel Group, a partner hotel group

3. Use Points + Cash For Nights

Get a reward night by combining fewer points with cash.  Points Plus Cash reward nights are available with a minimum of 8,000 points in your account.  The cash portion is the cost to purchase the remaining amount of points needed for the reward night. Each 1,000 points purchased cost $7.50

4. Redeem Points for Airline Miles

Choice Privileges members can choose to redeem their points for miles.  Mileage redemption rates vary per airline. Upon a quick review, it seems that for most redemptions you get 1,000-2,000 airline miles for 5,000 Choice Privileges points. You are probably better off using your Choice Privileges points for hotel stays! See all of the redemption rates per airline here.

5. Redeem Points For Other Travel Rewards

For example, use points for car rentals and cruises.
