When you join the Marriott/SPG Rewards program, you are a “member”. Additionally, Marriott/SPG Rewards offers Silver Elite, Gold Elite, or Platinum Elite, Platinum Premier Elite, and Platinum Premier Elite With Ambassador Service. You are entitled to additional privileges and benefits with each level you reach. There is also Lifetime status which you can read about here.
One way to reach Silver, Gold and Platinum Elite Status levels is by staying and acquiring nights. Coming in 2019, you will receive 15 elite night credits if you have the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card, Starwood Preferred Credit Card by American Express and the Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card by American Express and you can receive this benefit for one of these cards if you have more than just one.
You need the following number of nights per year to achieve the following status levels…
Silver Elite-10-24 nights
Gold Elite-25-49 nights
Platinum Elite-50-74 nights
Platinum Premier Elite-75-99 nights
Platinum Premier Elite With Ambassador Service-over 100 nights and $20,000 in qualifying spend.
You can earn Elite nights credit when you use points for stays.
Combined program update-Note, a member’s highest current elite status will be mapped to the new program. Starting August 18, you can combine all your Rewards and SPG nights back to January 1, 2018, to achieve one of the six Elite status levels.
Another way to reach status levels is by having and using a Chase Marriott credit card or an American Express SPG card.
With the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card you will automatically receive Silver Elite Status each account anniversary year as a cardmember.
Each Account Anniversary Year you make purchases totaling $35,000 or more you will qualify for Gold Elite Status through December 31 of the following year.
In addition, coming in 2019, with the card, you get 15 elite night credits toward your next Elite membership level.
With the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Business Credit Card you will automatically receive Silver Elite Status each account anniversary year as a cardmember.
Each Account Anniversary Year you make purchases totaling $50,000 or more you will qualify for Gold Elite Status through December 31 of the following year.
With the Starwood Preferred Guest Card From American Express and the Starwood Preferred Guest Business Card From American Express you receive complimentary Silver Elite status with your Card.
Earn Gold Elite status after spending $35,000 or more in eligible purchases on your Card in a calendar year.
A final way in which you can earn Gold Elite status automatically, is by having an American Express Platinum card or Business Platinum card. With one of these cards, you can receive Gold status without having to meet frequent-stay minimums or spending thresholds. This is how I always have Gold status.
