All Things Being Equal, Book Travel Through A Credit Card Site Instead Of Transferring Points To A Loyalty Program

UnknownMany of the major banks offer cards that give you access to travel booking sites.  For example American Express, Chase and Citibank all have online Travel centers where you can use your points to pay for your travel.  You can read the specifics on how to do that on each site, here.

Don’t forget, these same points that you can use to book travel through one of the above sites, can also be transferred to a specific loyalty program and used to book travel there instead.  But which method should you use if the point requirement is the same via each method?  Is one method better than the other?

Yes! I suggest using the points to book your travel through the bank’s travel site instead of transferring your points to a loyalty program.  The main reason is that when booking the travel through the travel site, your travel counts as a paid fare, so you’ll also earn frequent flyer miles or rewards points on the purchase!

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
