American Express Canceled My American Express Hilton HHonors Card

Recall that I recently traded in my American Express Gold Card in favor of the Amex Everyday Card.  Granted the Amex Gold is a charge card (you need to pay balance every month) and the Amex Everyday is a credit card (you can carry a balance).  But on their own, American Express, at the same time, canceled my American Express Hilton HHonors card.  The reason they gave is that they noticed that the card had been inactive for the past 12 months, and therefore they are closing the inactive account as they open the Amex Everyday Preferred card.

I called.  Got transferred to lots of people.  They were very apologetic.  In fact, they gave me 6,000 Hilton HHonors points for my troubles!!!!  But bottom line, they won’t reinstate unless I cancel another American Express credit card.  I also have the American Express Starwood card, American Express Delta SkyMiles card and American Express JetBlue card.  (My Platinum does not go into the equation as it is a charge card.)  You know what, no thank you!  I don’t need the card that much anyway as I have my Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card.  I will use this card if and when I stay at a Hilton Resort!

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
