Are Home Stays Coded As Travel?

imagesI have to admit, I have never booked a home stay, but they do intrigue me.  I also think they are going to become a lot more popular as is evidenced by the fact that Marriott Bonvoy just got into the home stay game.  The company announced Homes & Villas by Marriott International, that is a home rental program offering premium and luxury homes located throughout the United States, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. Members of Marriott Bonvoy can earn and redeem points at these homes.

But what about all of the lucrative points you would be giving up by staying in a home rather than a hotel?

Fear not, obviously Marriott home stays will be coded as travel.  In addition, based on some online digging, traditional home stay companies like Airbnb, VRBO, Home Away, etc. are coded the same way as hotels so they will be coded as travel as well.

Have you stayed in a home?  How did it compare with a traditional hotel?  Maybe one day for me……

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
