Card Highlights

Chase Sapphire Reserve is a Credit Card

With a credit card, you can carry a balance and accrue interest if necessary.  Note this is not advised by me. The points game does not work well, if you are carrying a balance and accruing interest.  See #4 in Let’s Get Started To Earning Free Travel.

Card Rewards

Earn Ultimate Rewards with the card.  Learn about the Chase Ultimate Rewards Program here.

Sign-up Bonus

Before you apply, make sure your ability to get the sign-up bonus is not limited by Chase restrictions on an additional sign-up bonus or the Chase 5/24 rule. Also be mindful of the unwritten 30 day application rule.

$550 annual fee

Additional Cardholder Fees

Additional cardholder fees are $75 per year per card.

50% More In Value When You Redeem Your Points For Travel

When you use points to redeem for cash, each point is worth $.01 (one cent), which means that 100 points equals $1 in redemption value.  However, each point you redeem for travel booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards is worth $.0150 (one and a half cents), which means that 100 points equals $1.50 in redemption value, and points are worth 50% more than if redeemed for cash.  For example, a $750 flight (or other travel purchase booked on the Chase Ultimate Rewards site) requires 50,000 points. (NOT 75,000)  Note, compare this to the Sapphire Preferred card where points can be redeemed for 1.25 cents each.  Read about how to redeem points through Ultimate Rewards here.

The Points Mom And The Chase Sapphire Reserve

I couldn’t resist.  I just got the card!  And since getting the card, it forced me to analyze and make some changes within my own credit card inventory.

Fast forward 5 years, I downgraded my card to the Sapphire Preferred.
