If you go to your Marriott Bonvoy account and go to “overview” in your profile, you will likely see this message….
“To help you get to the next Elite level faster, we will deposit 50% of the required Elite Night Credits for your 2019 Elite status into your account by the end of July.”
Remember, you don’t have to worry about maintaining your status through Feb 2022 because Bonvoy has extended everyone’s 2019 to February 2022.
So the way this new offer helps is that these additional 50% nights will help you move more quickly to the next tier level (over the one you are guaranteed thru Feb 2022).
So for example, I am a Bonvoy Gold member. To reach Gold, you need to reach at least 25 nights. So, by the end of July, Bonvoy should deposit 12-13 nights into my Bonvoy account. (Note, I am a Gold member thru my Amex Platinum card, not through nights, but this is irrelevant for this promotion)
I also want to mention, I have 2 Marriott co-branded credit cards. I have a Chase Marriott Bonvoy Business Card and a Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card. Having those 2 cards already started me out in 2020 with 30 nights as each card gives me 15 nights per year. Don’t forget, you can have any combo of personal and business cards from Amex and Chase to get the 30 nights.
So by the end of July, I will have about 43 nights having not stayed in a Bonvoy hotel at all in 2020. I would be really close to the 50 night requirement for Platinum Elite. I think I see some Bonvoy stays in my future to try to get those last 7 nights. TBD!
There are also additional updates for Ambassador level members. Normally to achieve this highest status, members need over 100 nights and need to spend $20,000 at Bonvoy. Now, Bonvoy is getting rid of the $20k spend requirement for 2020 for current Ambassador members. Members trying to attain that status, need to meet both requirements.
It is also notable, that members who earned Ambassador status in 2019 and who earn 100 Night Credits in 2020 can give Platinum status to one friend or family member.
