Rob will be taking Daniel and Mason this coming MLK weekend (2015) to Beaver Creek for their second annual boys ski weekend. I booked the details for their trip at the end of May, 6 months in advance. I think they will be very happy!
First, I got them direct flights ON POINTS into Vail/Eagle. Eagle is the airport that is only 30 minutes from Beaver Creek. (Last year I was only able to book them flights on points to Denver and they had a 2 hour drive each way from the Denver airport.). I booked these flights using our American Airlines AAdvantage miles for 40,000 miles each. Great deal!!!! I have used 50,000 miles in the past to fly in and out of Eagle.
Second, I booked them a Studio Suite at the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa. This hotel is a Starwood Resort and an SPG Category 5.
I booked the four night stay using 75,000 Starwood Preferred Guest points, another pretty good deal in my experience for a suite! (We love this hotel, read about our summer stay, and our prior winter stay).
I am unsure if I got these good deals, (especially the flights) because I booked 6 months in advance. (I could have even booked earlier). I think I just booked at a good time and got lucky with the flights. A different day may have yielded a different flight redemption requirement. Like I said above, last year, I was not as lucky.
As for Jessie and I, we may be headed to Austin. I will keep you up to date on our plans and on how I am going to get us there as well FOR FREE!
