We are headed to Jackson Hole, WY for winter break, 2017. We used Chase Ultimate Rewards points for our flights.
The American Airlines flights that I booked cost $521 each, which seemed pretty reasonable based on what I have seen recently. I have been looking quite often. Note though, we are leaving on a Sunday instead of a Saturday and therefore only going for 6 nights. The flights were in the mid to high 600s to leave on Saturday.
For each $521 flight, I needed 41,680 Ultimate Rewards points. Points can be redeemed for travel through the Ultimate Rewards site at a value of .0125 cents per point when you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card, like I do. ($521/.0125)
So I saved $2,600 ($521 X5) using Chase points. Also note, since I booked through the Chase site, I will still earn American AAdvantage miles on the flights because my travel counts as a paid fare.
One last thing, I completely depleted mine and Rob’s Chase Ultimate Rewards points booking these flights. However, I am getting an influx of 100,000 points very soon as I just got the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card with a bonus of 100,000 points! Also, I use my Chase cards all the time. I am sure my balance will be flush once again quite soon…..
