Every year, I fight to requalify for Hyatt Globalist status. I love the perks—free breakfast, suite upgrades, late checkout, waived resort fees—but getting to 60 nights is no easy feat. I always look to stay at Hyatt properties when I travel, but sometimes there just isn’t a Hyatt nearby.
On average, I manage about 30 nights per year through actual stays. That means I have to get creative for the other 30 nights. Enter my Hyatt credit card. With every $5,000 spent, I earn two elite night credits, so to make up the shortfall, I have to put significant spend on the card—often at the expense of more valuable credit cards like my American Express® Gold Card or Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card.
If I lived near a Category 1 Hyatt, things would be so much easier. Some people are lucky enough to have access to a Hyatt Place or other budget-friendly Hyatt where they can book a quick overnight stay for just 5,000 points per night, helping them rack up elite nights without unnecessary credit card spending. Unfortunately, I don’t live near any lower-category Hyatts.
But this year, I’m getting lucky! My daughter, who goes to school in Ithaca, is taking an important job-related test in Rochester, NY—a place that has Category 1 Hyatt hotels. She’s staying for two nights, and I have contacted the hotel and added her to my reservation. This now means I get two easy elite night credits without spending extra on my Hyatt card! Every night counts when you’re chasing Globalist.
One of the reasons this strategy is so easy for me is that I always have access to Hyatt points. Thanks to my Chase Ultimate Rewards® and Bilt Rewards cards, I can instantly transfer points to Hyatt whenever I need to book a 5,000-point night. This flexibility is key to making sure I never miss an opportunity to grab an extra stay.
Do you live near a Category 1 Hyatt? If so, take advantage! Even a quick one-night stay could get you closer to Globalist without forcing unnecessary spend on your Hyatt card. Every elite night matters!
