DC Bound And $930 Saved

Unknown 3Rob needs to be in DC to be admitted to the Supreme Court (cool!) on Monday, March 4th and I want to be there.  It is such a long drive and even the train seemed daunting for that short of a stay (1 night).

So I used 24,000 Delta SkyMiles per flight for both Rob and I.  The flights would have been $316.60.  Using miles, we had to pay 11.20 per ticket in fees so we saved $305.41 per ticket for a total of $610. Delta SkyMiles are typically valued at 1.2 cents per mile.  So I used value of $576 for flights that would have cost $610.  In this case, my value analysis is favorable (it isn’t always).

AS for the hotel, I have had Kimpton on my radar ever since it became a part of IHG. I used Rob’s anniversary free night that he has because he is a Chase IHG Rewards Club Premier cardmember and he was still grandfathered in at the unlimited free night award. The hotel room would have cost us $319 for the night.

So in total we saved $929 and we have a free night away.  Hmmm, now where should we make a dinner reservation?

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
