I am currently in Cary, North Carolina.  I came down for s swim meet with my daughter.  Getting down here was quite inexpensive (the Delta flights were about $120 a piece and the Hyatt Place hotel about $80 per night), so I did not even attempt to try to use miles or points for this mini trip.  It would not have been worth it to me, to use points.

I had previously canceled my American Express Gold Delta SkyMiles card also canceled my Chase Hyatt Visa Card,  These would have been logical cards to use as with the Delta card you earn 2 Delta SkyMiles per $1 spent on Delta flights (2:1 SAME WITH SAPPHIRE-SEE BELOW) and with the Hyatt card, you earn 3 Gold Passport points per $1 spent at Hyatt hotels. (The Hyatt Gold Passport Program has been replaced by The World Of Hyatt Program)

So to pay for this trip, I used my beloved Chase Sapphire Preferred card, as I earn 2 Chase Ultimate Rewards points on travel.

I currently just posted about SPG/Delta Crossover Rewards, and realized I could have earned SPG points on my paid Delta flight.  So I registered.  Unfortunately, the terms indicate that I must register for Crossover Rewards at least 48 hours prior to taking my Delta Flight to earn the Starpoints.  I missed the deadline and thus did not earn the points.  🙁

However, I did register on time to earn SPG points on my Delta flight to Hawaii, coming up in a week.  🙂  Don’t forget, I booked these points through Chase Travel using Chase Ultimate Rewards, so for the purposes of earning Delta SkyMiles and now SPG points, this flight is considered a paid for flight.

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
