As a members of the Starwood Preferred Guest Program, we know you can earn Starwood Preferred Guest points when staying at a Starwood Resort. In fact, SPG members earn 2 to 3 Starpoints for every eligible dollar spent at Starwood Resorts. But what if you are in the market for airline miles instead?
Well, if airline miles are your preferred reward for hotel stays, you can elect to automatically earn them, instead of Starpoints, with SPG’s Airline Direct Deposit (ADD) program. If you do this, the following 2 actions occur in your SPG account…
1. Starpoints will post to your account and reference specific stay dates.
2. Starpoints will be deducted from your account immediately and transferred to
your preferred airline, where they’ll convert to miles.
Most Starpoints-to-miles conversions are on a 1:1 basis, but there are a few exceptions. You can access the airline list here.
I want to point out that this option would probably only be worth doing if you are really trying to accumulate airline miles on a certain airline and/or if you are taking advantage of an airline bonus offer, like this one with HawaiianMiles, where you can earn triple miles. Starwood has such attractive redemption rates, the 2-3 Starpoints you earn on stays will likely be much more valuable then the miles you will earn.
