Note that I offer information about spending incentives on each card. But just because there is a spending incentive on some of your airline and hotel cards, it doesn’t mean you should take advantage of it.

I much prefer you do your heavy spending on your cards that earn FLEXIBLE REWARDS.

However, my opinion may be different if you are spending for airline or hotel status.

American Express Membership Rewards Cards

American Express PERSONAL Platinum

1. Shop at Saks-Did you use your $50 statement credit, which expires on 6/30? You have another $50 to spend at Saks starting July 1. Don’t forget about this! You need to make sure you are ENROLLED in this benefit and pay with your Platinum Card when you shop.

2. Think about if you can use your $200 airline fee credit-remember, Amex will make an exception and let you change your airline mid-year as long as you haven’t used any of it.

3. Keep trying to use your Uber Cash-I use mine on Uber Eats and I select “pick up” instead of delivery because I have a lot more options! Don’t forget you get $200 annually in Uber credits. The benefit is really for $15 in Uber credits every month, plus a $20 bonus in December, and no, the credit does not carry over each month. You use the monthly credit, or you lose the monthly credit. If you take advantage of this benefit, make sure you add your American Express Platinum Card as a payment method to your Uber app.

4. Have you been using your $240 Digital Entertainment Credit?-Remember, you can get $20 in statement credits per month, for a total of $240 per calendar year when you have monthly charges at Peacock, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Hulu, DisneyPlus and ESPN Plus. Enrollment is required to receive the benefit. 

5. Take advantage of the $189 CLEAR CreditI LOVE CLEAR (especially combined with TSA Pre✓)! You get up to $189 in statement credits per year after you pay for CLEAR with your Platinum Card. This is enough to cover the cost of a CLEAR membership. And DO NOT just go thru the general Clear site to register. Register as a Delta SkyMiles member with this link or as a United MileagePlus member with this link and the cost of your membership is just $179. Add family members (over 18) at $99 each.

6. Can you take advantage of the $200 Hotel Credit? This one is tough for me to use, you? You get $200 back in statement credits each year on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection bookings with American Express Travel. You need to pay with your Platinum Card.

7. Is your Global Entry/TSA Precheck expiring soon? Don’t forget about the Fee Credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre✓. You receive one Global Entry ($100) statement credit or one TSA Pre✓ ($85) statement credit every 4 years for an application fee charged to your Platinum Card. And for all card members under the Primary Platinum, you get $100 credit too. Use a separate card for each member’s application fee! Note, as soon as your birthday hits in the YEAR BEFORE EXPIRATION, you can (and should) renew. 

American Express BUSINESS Platinum Card

1. Shop at Dell-Did you use your $200 statement credit, which expires on 6/30? You have another $200 to spend at Dell starting July 1.  Don’t forget about this! You need to make sure you are ENROLLED in this benefit and pay with your Platinum Card when you shop. You can buy items like headphones and portable speakers.

2. Think about if you can use your $200 airline fee creditAmex will make an exception and let you change your airline mid-year as long as you haven’t used any of it.

3. $120 Wireless Statement CreditsHave you been getting your $10/month credit? Put your phone bill on your Business Platinum card as you get $120 in statement credits per year for wireless telephone service purchases made directly with a wireless provider in the U.S. It is credited back at $10 back per month.

4. Take advantage of the $189 CLEAR CreditI LOVE CLEAR (especially combined with TSA Pre✓)! You get up to $189 in statement credits per year after you pay for CLEAR with your Platinum Card. This is enough to cover the cost of a CLEAR membership. And DO NOT just go thru the general Clear site to register. Register as a Delta SkyMiles member with this link or as a United MileagePlus member with this link and the cost of your membership is just $179. Add family members (over 18) at $99 each. 

5. Think about if you can use your 35% rebate, and if so, select your airline-Remember, when you use the Pay with Points feature through American Express Travel for either a First or Business class flight on any airline OR for flights with your selected qualifying airline, you get 35% of your points back up to 250,000 bonus points per calendar year.

6. Do you use Indeed or Adobe? You get a $360 Indeed Credit that is credited back as $90 per quarter. You need to ENROLL. You also get a $150 Adobe Credit for purchases with Adobe on annual prepaid plans for Creative Cloud for teams and Acrobat Pro DC with e-sign.

7. Is your Global Entry/TSA Precheck expiring this year? Don’t forget about the Fee Credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre✓. You receive one Global Entry ($100) statement credit or one TSA Pre✓ ($85) statement credit every 4 years for an application fee charged to your Business Platinum Card. Note, as soon as your birthday hits in the YEAR BEFORE EXPIRATION, you can (and should) renew. 

American Express Gold

1. Remember to keep using your $10 monthly dining credit-Remember to keep using your $10 monthly dining credit at (updated list) Grubhub, The Cheesecake Factory, Goldbelly, Wine.com, Milk Bar, and participating Shake Shack locationsI have been buying a Goldbelly gift card each month. I am saving them up as they do NOT expire! You need to make sure you are ENROLLED in this benefit and pay with your Gold Card when you shop.

1. Where are you with your $150,000 cap in which you can earn 4 points per dollar in your 2 top monthly categories (airfare, advertising, restaurants, gas, shipping, and computer purchases)? If you hit the $150k, consider switching up your card.

2. Remember to keep using your $10 monthly flexible business credit-Remember to keep using your $10 monthly flexible business credit at FedEx, Grubhub, and Office Supply Stores. You need to make sure you are ENROLLED in this benefit and pay with your Gold Card when you shop.Earn up to $20 in statement credits monthly after you use the Business Gold Card for eligible U.S. purchases at FedEx, Grubhub, and Office Supply Stores. This can be an annual savings of up to $240. Enrollment required

American Express Green

1. Take advantage of the $189 CLEAR CreditI LOVE CLEAR (especially combined with TSA Pre✓)! You get up to $189 in statement credits per year after you pay for CLEAR with your Green Card. And DO NOT just go thru the general Clear site to register. Register as a Delta SkyMiles member with this link or as a United MileagePlus member with this link and the cost of your membership is just $179. Add family members (over 18) at $99 each. 

2. Use your $100 LoungeBuddy credit this year if you can-Don’t forget, you can use your card to purchase lounge access through LoungeBuddy and receive up to $100 in statement credits per calendar year. I think this is very hard to use! I never was able to.

American Express Everyday Preferred

1. Your grocery cap reset-Have you hit your $6,000 cap in which you can earn 3 points per dollar on groceries? If yes, switch this card to a different card where you earn more than 1x reward per $1 on your grocery shopping.

American Express Blue Business

1. Have you hit your $50,000 cap in which you can earn 2 points per dollar on ALL PURCHASES? If yes, switch this card to another where you earn more than 1x per $1 on your EVERYTHING.

American Express Delta SkyMiles Cards

 

American Express Delta SkyMiles Gold Card & the American Express Delta SkyMiles Gold Business Card

1.  There are 2 new benefits as of 2/24.

a. $10k spend for $200-I don’t really advise in putting any sort of heavy spending on this card, but if you do, know that if you spend $10,000 in purchases on your card in a calendar year you will receive a $200 Delta Flight Credit (up from $100).

b. I don’t think many of you book Delta vacation packages but know that you can earn up to $150 in statement credits per calendar year with the personal card and up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year with the business card when you pay for a new Delta Stays prepaid hotel or vacation rental booking on the Delta Stays platform (delta.com/stays)

American Express Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card & the American Express Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business Card

1. Know you will get a companion certificate when you pay your $350 renewal fee-Don’t forget, upon renewing your card, you get a Companion Certificate valid for one round-trip Main Cabin ticket with the purchase of a round-trip fare (and taxes and fees) for domestic, Caribbean, or Central American roundtrip flights. The primary ticket and Companion ticket must be purchased with your Delta SkyMiles Credit Card. Both passengers must be booked on the same flights and dates at the same time.

2. Do you have a companion ticket due to expire?-Note your expiration dates, and let’s be hopeful we can use these before they expire.

3. $2500 MQD headstart-Did you get your $2500 MQD head start at the beginning of 2024?

3. Do you need to spend on your card to achieve or maintain Delta Medallion status? – It is likely not worth it at the terrible rate of 1 MQD for every $20 spent on the card. Think before you do this or reach out to discuss.

4. Need to renew TSA Pre√ or Global Entry?-You get a statement credit of up to $100 every 4 years as reimbursement for the application fee charged to your card for Global Entry or TSA Pre√. Note, as soon as your birthday hits in the YEAR BEFORE EXPIRATION, you can (and should) renew. 

5. New Benefits as of 2/24

a. CLICK ENROLL IN THE NEW $120 RESY CREDIT BOX. Now, you can earn up to $10 in statement credits each month for eligible Resy purchases. Eligible Resy purchases include purchases at U.S. restaurants that offer reservations on Resy.com and the Resy app. I looked at these. There are not many places I go to regularly. You will need to be mindful of this one and try to use it. You use it each month or lose it. And if you have an additional cardholder, their card can also trigger the credit (but just one $10/month per account).

b. CLICK ENROLL IN THE NEW $120 RIDESHARE CREDIT BOX. Now, you can earn up to $10 in statement credits per month when you make eligible purchases in the U.S. with the following rideshare services: Uber, Lyft, Curb, Revel, and Alto. I am betting the credit will also be triggered when you use the card on Uber Eats. You use it each month or lose it. And if you have an additional cardholder, their card can also trigger the credit (but just one $10/month per account).

c. I don’t think many of you book Delta vacation packages, but know that you can earn up to $150 in statement credits per calendar year when you pay for a new Delta Stays prepaid hotel or vacation rental booking on the Delta Stays platform (delta.com/stays)

d. You now get Hertz Five Star Status with the card.

1. Know you will get a free night reward when you pay your renewal fee-this free night can be used at almost all Hiltons, even some of their higher-end properties. I have used mine at the Grand Wailea in Maui and at the Waldorf in Park City, and the Waldorf in Beverly Hills a lot, amazing uses of my free nights!

2. Do you have any free nights currently due to expire?-Note your expiration dates, and let’s be hopeful we can use these before they expire.

3. Updated benefit-Think about if you can use your $200 semi-annual resort credit-You receive  $200 in STATEMENT CREDITS semi-annually each calendar year for eligible purchases made directly with participating Hilton Resorts on your Card. I am trying to use mine last minute at a restaurant at a local Hilton. I hope it works!

4. Updated benefitUse your quarterly $50 airline credit-You receive a $200 AIRLINE FEE CREDIT (given as $50 per quarter) for flights purchased directly from any airline or through amextravel.com (why would you?), using your Card.

5. Spend $60K and earn another Free Night Reward– Are you close to $60,000 on purchases on your card in 2023? Know that when you hit $60k of spend, you will earn ANOTHER free night reward.

6. New Benefit-You receive Executive status in National Car Rental Emerald Club with the card.

Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card

1. New BenefitThink about if you can use your $200 annual resort credit given as $50 per quarter-You receive up to $200 back in statement credits annually for eligible Hilton purchases made with your card directly at participating Hilton properties (up to $50 in statement credits each quarter).

2. Spend $15K and earn a Free Night Reward-Are you close to $15,000 on purchases on your card in 2023? Know that when you hit $15k of spend, you will earn a free night reward.

3. New Benefit-You receive complimentary National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive status. 

Hilton Honors American Express Business Card

1. New BenefitThink about if you can use your $240 annual resort credit given as $60 per quarter-You receive up to $240 back in statement credits annually for eligible Hilton purchases made with your card directly at participating Hilton properties (up to $60 in statement credits each quarter).

2. Spend $15K/$60K and earn 2 Night RewardsAre you close to this? You will have the ability to earn a Free Night Reward after spending $15,000 on purchases on your card in a calendar year and a second reward night after you spend $60,000 in a calendar year.

American Express Marriott Bonvoy Cards

1. Know you will get a free night award after your card account anniversary-This free night can be used for one night (redemption level at or under 35,000 points) at a participating hotel. Bonvoy is now allowing members to add up to 15,000 points to this Free Night Certificate, so you can look for properties up to 50k points per night.  

2. Do you have any free nights currently due to expire?-Note your expiration dates. Do you have any nights due to expire? Rumor has it that if you call Bonvoy at the beginning of the month that your Free Night is due to expire, they will extend it. Let me know if you try and the outcome!

3. Do you have any Suite Night Awards (usually earned with status) currently due to expire?-Note your expiration dates.

Marriott Bonvoy Bevy American Express Card

1. Are you close to this? Spend $15K and earn a Free Night Award-If, in any calendar year, you spend $15,000, you will receive a Free Night Award up to 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points. Bonvoy is now allowing members to add up to 15,000 points to this Free Night Certificate, so you can look for properties up to 65k points per night.

American Express Blue Cash Preferred Card

American Express Blue Business Cash Card

1. Have you hit your $50,000 cap in which you can earn 2% back on ALL PURCHASES? If yes, switch this card to another where you earn more than 1% or 1x per $1 on your EVERYTHING.

Chase Ultimate Rewards Cards

Chase Sapphire Reserve and the J.P. Morgan Reserve Visa Infinite Card

1. $300 Annual Travel Credit-Confirm you have gotten this credit. Remember, each anniversary, you automatically receive up to $300 in statement credits as reimbursement for travel-related purchases charged to your card.

2. Need to renew TSA Pre√ or Global Entry?-You get a statement credit of up to $100 every 4 years as reimbursement for the application fee charged to your card for Global Entry or TSA Pre√. Note, as soon as your birthday hits in the YEAR BEFORE EXPIRATION, you can (and should) renew. 

3. Points worth 1.5 cents-Don’t forget, points are worth 1.5 cents per point when redeeming for travel, and they transfer to most partners at the rate of 1:1.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

1. $50 Hotel statement credit-Each ANNIVERSARY year, you get a statement credit when you use your card for hotel accommodation purchases made through the Ultimate Rewards program.

2. 10% Anniversary Points Boost-Each account anniversary, you’ll earn bonus points equal to 10% of your total purchases made the previous year. That means if you spend $25,000 on purchases, you’ll get 2,500 bonus points.

3. Points worth 1.25 cents-Don’t forget, points are worth 1.25 cents per point when redeeming for travel, and they transfer to most partners at the rate of 1:1.

Chase Ink Business Preferred

1. Have you hit your $150K cap in which you can earn 3 points per dollar on travel, shipping, advertising purchases made with social media sites and search engines, internet, cable, and phone services? If yes, switch this card to a different card where you earn more than  1x reward per $1 on your spending on these categories.

Chase Ink Business Plus (old card version)

1. Have you hit your $50K cap in which you can earn 5 points per dollar on office supply stores and on cellular phone, landline, internet, and cable TV? If yes, switch this card to a different card where you earn more than  1x reward per $1 on your spending on these categories.

2. Points worth 1.25 cents-Don’t forget, points are worth 1.25 cents per point when redeeming for travel and they transfer to most partners at the rate of 1:1.

Chase Freedom Cards

Chase Freedom Unlimited

1. Remember your multipliers-You get 3x points per $1 at restaurants and drug stores. You get 1.5x points per $1 on all other purchases. For those of you who got the card with the match offer, for some of us early ones, the 12 months will be up this fall. I am excited to see how quickly these extra points come in.

2. Remember to keep moving your Freedom points to your more lucrative Sapphire buckets periodically-email me if you need to be reminded of the steps.

Chase Freedom Flex and the old version Chase Freedom Card

1. Continue using it on your 2nd quarter categories where you get 5% back at Amazon, hotels and restaurants. Switch your Amazon payment method back to the “right card” after June 30th if you haven’t already. And you can now activate your 5% for the thrid quarter where the categories are select live entertainment, gas stations and electric vehicle charging.  Make sure you activate. 1. Two United Club passes every year for your anniversary-Make sure you get your two one-time-use passes to the United Club each year for your Cardmember anniversary.

2. Do you need to spend on your card to achieve or maintain United MileagePlus Premier status?-Remember, you can earn 500 PQP towards United Premier status for every $12,000 in card spend, up to 1,000 PQP in a calendar year, which can be applied up to 1K status. Are you close?

3.  Need to renew TSA Pre√ or Global Entry?-You get a statement credit of up to $100 every 4 years as reimbursement for the application fee charged to your card for Global Entry or TSA Pre√. Note, as soon as your birthday hits in the YEAR BEFORE EXPIRATION, you can (and should) renew. 

4. Do you also have a Chase United Business card?-If your anniversary hit, you should have gotten 5,000 Anniversary Bonus Miles because you have both this personal Card and the Chase United Business card below.

United flight travel-related purchases include seat upgrades, inflight food, beverages, and Wi-Fi; baggage service charges or other United fees.

Chase United Quest Card

1.  Do you need to spend on your card to achieve or maintain United MileagePlus Premier status?-Remember, you can earn 500 PQP towards United Premier status for every $12,000 in card spend, up to 6,000 PQP in a calendar year, which can be applied up to 1K status. Are you close?

2. $125 Annual United Purchase Credit-Have you received this? You receive up to $125 in statement credits each account anniversary year as reimbursement for United purchases charged to your card.

3. Two 5,000-Mile Anniversary Award Flight Credits-Each anniversary year, you’ll get 5,000 miles back in your MileagePlus account after you take a United or United Express-operated award flight booked with your miles – up to 2 times every anniversary year.

2. Mosaic Status CHANGE TO QUALIFYING AND IT’S BETTER!-JetBlue TrueBlue now tracks your status with “Tiles,” and you need 50 to get to Mosaic 1 (kinda the same thing as the old Mosaic status). They also threw in other levels -Mosaic 2 (100 Tiles) and 3 (150 Tiles), and 4 (250 Tiles). The higher the status number, the more perks.
