Find your card below…..then see what you need to know and what you should do in 2025 I have put CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR in red.

Note, I offer information about spending incentives on each card. But just because there is a spending incentive on some of your airline and hotel cards, it doesn’t mean you should take advantage of it. I much prefer your heavy spending on your cards that earn FLEXIBLE REWARDS. However, my opinion may be different if you are spending for airline or hotel status. As always, feel free to reach out if you want to talk about your individual spending plan.

American Express Membership Rewards Cards

1. Remember your multipliers-You get 5x per $1 on all airfare, whether booked through Amex Travel or DIRECTLY through the AIRLINE (directly means not thru an intermediary like Expedia or Kayak). You also get 5x on prepaid hotels (Fine Hotels and Resorts and the Hotel Collection) booked through Amex Travel. You earn 2x Membership Rewards on other travel that you book on the American Express Travel website.

2. Shop at Saks-You have another $50 to spend at Saks. Don’t forget about this! You will receive up to $50 in statement credits when you shop at Saks from January through June and another one up to $50 in statement credits when you shop at Saks from July through December. You need to make sure you are ENROLLED in this benefit and pay with your Platinum Card when you shop.

3. Think about if you can use your $200 airline fee credit-Your annual airline fee credit reset, and you have till Jan 31 to make a change (but Amex should make an exception and let you change your airline anytime during the year as long as you haven’t used any of it). If you have trouble using this cash each year, ask me about using it on United Travel Bank cash!

4. Keep trying to use your Uber Cash-I use mine on Uber Eats and I select “pick up” instead of delivery because I have a lot more options! Don’t forget that you get $200 annually in Uber credits. The benefit is really $15 in Uber credits every month, plus a $20 bonus in December, and no, the credit does not carry over each month. You use the monthly credit, or you lose the monthly credit. If you take advantage of this benefit, make sure you add your American Express Platinum Card as a payment method to your Uber app.

5. Can you use your $240 Digital Entertainment Credit-You can get $20 in statement credits per month, for a total of $240 per calendar year when you have monthly charges at Disney+, Disney Bundle, ESPN+, Hulu, The New York Times, Peacock, and The Wall Street Journal. Enrollment is required to receive the benefit.

6. Take advantage of the $199 CLEAR CreditI LOVE CLEAR (especially combined with TSA Pre✓)! You get up to $199 in statement credits per year after you pay for CLEAR with your Platinum Card. This is enough to cover the cost of a CLEAR membership, which is $199.

BUT you do not have to pay $199. You can get Clear at a lower rate (having more of the $199 statement credit to play with) when you DO NOT just go through the general Clear site to register.

Delta-You can register as a Delta SkyMiles member with this link, and the cost of your membership will be $189. Silver, Gold, and Platinum Medallion members get Clear for $159. AND if you have an Amex personal or business Delta Card (Gold, Platinum, or Reserve), you can also get Clear for $159. Diamond Medallion members get Clear for free.

United-You can register as a United MileagePlus member with this link and the cost of your membership will be $189. Premier Silver, Gold, and Platinum status members will get Clear for $159. AND if you have a Chase personal or business United card (Club card, Business card, Explorer card), you can also get Clear for $159. United MileagePlus Premier 1K and Global Services elite status members get Clear for free.

7. Can you take advantage of the $200 Hotel Credit? This one is tough for me to use, you? You get $200 back in statement credits each year on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection bookings with American Express Travel. You need to pay with your Platinum Card.

8. Do you belong to Equinox? Take advantage of the $300 back on an Equinox club membership.

9. Walmart+ Membership for free-in the past, one reason I have said to just get this is because it comes with a free Paramount+ membership. But another reason is to save on gas. If you have a Walmart+ membership you can save 10¢ per gallon at Exxon, Mobil, Walmart & Murphy stations. You need to download the app. Then go to services at the bottom and click “Member prices on fuel” in the middle of the page. Then follow the prompts. I am going to try to remember to use this every time I get gas at one of the above service stations!

10. Additional cardholders under the Platinum Card-You were billed in 2024 at the new rate of $195 per additional platinum card. Think about whether you should switch these out for the FREE Companion card the next time you get billed the $195.

11. Is your Global Entry/TSA Precheck expiring this year? Don’t forget about the Fee Credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre✓. You receive one Global Entry ($120) statement credit or one TSA Pre✓ ($85) statement credit every four years for an application fee charged to your Platinum Card. And for all cardmembers under the Primary Platinum, you get $100 credit too whether these additional cards are real Platinum cards OR THE COMPANION CARDS! Use a separate card for each member’s application fee! CHANGE-Global Entry went up from $100 to $120 last fall AND now kids under 18 can get Global Entry for free as long as their parents have it. Know that you still need to apply for you kids separately.

12. Lounge AccessSTARTING 2/1/25, you will no longer have unlimited access to the Delta Lounge but instead will get 10 visits per year. A Visit includes all access to the Sky Club within a 24-hour period after your first check-in at any Delta Sky Club. But remember, if you are flying on a BASIC ECONOMY TICKET (the one below Main Cabin), you CANNOT use any of your visits to access the lounge.

Also, something to note is that if you are a heavy Amex Platinum spender (I hope just on airfare and fancy hotels through Amex), you will have unlimited access after spending $75k on your Platinum Card in a calendar year. Once you hit the $75k, you will have unlimited access for the remainder of that year and the next. You can still get into Centurion as much as you want, and make sure you have your Priority Pass membership set up.

4. $120 Wireless Statement Credits-Put your phone bill on your Business Platinum card as you get $120 in statement credits per year for wireless telephone service purchases made directly with a wireless provider in the U.S. It is credited back at $10 back per month.

United MileagePlus Premier 1K and Global Services elite status members get Clear for free.

6. Think about if you can use your 35% rebate, and if so, select your airline-Remember, when you use the Pay with Points feature through American Express Travel for either a First or Business class flight on any airline, OR for flights with your selected qualifying airline, you get 35% of your points back up to 250,000 bonus points per calendar year. You have till Jan 31 to make a change to your selected airline (but Amex should make an exception and let you change your airline mid-year).

7. Do you use Indeed or Adobe? You get a $360 Ineed Credit that is credited back as $90 per quarter. You need to ENROLL. You can still get into Centurion as much as you want, and make sure you have your Priority Pass membership set up.

American Express Gold

1. Remember your multipliersCHANGE-You earn 4 points per dollar at restaurants WORLDWIDE but as of 1/1/25, Amex has capped the amount you can spend at restaurants and still get 4x per $1 to $50,000 on dining per year. Still pretrry good IMO! You also get 4 points per dollar at U.S. supermarkets on up to $25,000 per year in purchases, and 3 points per dollar on flights booked directly with airlines and airfare charged directly with amextravel.com. (directly means not thru an intermediary like Expedia or Kayak).
