We just made plans to join some friends, this summer, on a trip to Portland Oregon and the Oregon wine country. Don’t forget, our kids go away every summer for 7 weeks!!!!!!!! to sleep away camp. These seven weeks give Rob and I a chance to travel.
Since I will not fly with Rob, (I know its silly, I can’t help it), I needed to book us different flights. I got DIRECT flights for a mere 31,000 DeltaSkyMiles. This roundtrip flight would have cost $459. Rob’s is making 1 stop on each of his flights. His flights were 45,000 Delta SkyMiles and would have cost $681.
Rob was short miles, so I transferred 45,000 American Express Membership Rewards points to his Delta SkyMiles account. Amex transfers to Delta at a 1:1 ratio. The transfer was immediate. The fee for this transfer was $27.
With American Express Membership Rewards, transfers can be made with no transfer fees to hotel programs. However, when you transfer points into a U.S. airline frequent flyer program, you will be charged an excise tax offset fee of $0.0006 per point (with a maximum fee of $99). American Express states that they charge this fee to offset the federal excise tax that they must pay on transfers.
Looking forward to our trip SANS KIDS!
