If you have the ability to earn elite status on an airline that you are partial to and fly often, earn it!  Reason being, with many of the airline loyalty programs, as an elite member, you earn more miles or bonus miles in addition to the base miles you earn on your flights.  Here is a breakdown of the extra/bonus miles you can earn on flights as an elite member for some of the programs …

Delta SkyMiles Medallion Status– Base Miles higher…

General members earn 5 miles per $1 spent on flights but Medallion members earn more. Specifically, Silver members earn 7 miles, Gold members 8 miles, Platinum 9 miles and Diamond members 11 miles per $1 spent. Note, you can earn up to 75,000 miles per ticket.

JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic Status-Mosaic members earn an additional three TrueBlue points per dollar spent. Points will be earned on the base fare of the flight only.

Southwest Rapid Rewards A-List Status-A-List Members will receive a 25% earning bonus on base points earned and A-List Preferred Members will receive a 100% earning bonus on base points earned.
