Remember last week when Marriott announced the new name for it’s combined program which they called MARRIOTT BONVOY? Marriott Bonvoy will become the new name of the program starting on February 13, 2019.
Well today, Marriott released some more news about the fate of your Amex SPG cards and Chase Marriott cards and it’s confusing. Below, I attempt to make it a little bit easier. Try to find your current card below and just read that section….
Your Amex SPG Cards
Your current SPG Amex cards will be rebranded as follows:
Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express will become the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card on February 13, 2019. Important-American Express will no longer accept new applications for the card after February 12, 2019. Only existing cardmembers as of February 13, 2019 will be able to have this card. This means if you want it, apply before February 12th! When your card is converted to this new card, the benefits will remain the same for now and the fee will remain at $95.
Starwood Preferred Guest Luxury Credit Card from American Express-will become the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card on February 13, 2019. Then starting March 28, 2019, a new feature accompanying this new rebranded card will be to get up to $100 in property credit per stay when you use your Card and a special rate code to book stays of two or more nights at The Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis properties. In addition, this new card will be metal (I never understood why the SPG Luxury card wasn’t metal). All other benefits will remain the same for now and the fee will remain at $450. For those of you who don’t have the current version, the card will launch with a 100,000 point limited-time offer for new cardmembers ($5,000 spend requirement).
Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express-will become the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card on February 13, 2019. Then starting March 28, 2019, a new feature accompanying this new rebranded card will be to get an additional free night award (redemption level at or under 35,000 points) when you spend $60,000 or more on the Card annually. All other benefits will remain the same for now and the fee will increase from $95 to $125 on March 28th. For those of you who don’t have the current version, the card will launch with a 100,000 point limited-time offer for new cardmembers ($5,000 spend requirement).
Your Chase Marriott And Ritz Cards
Your current Chase Marriott and Ritz cards will be rebranded as follows:
Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card-will become the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card. For those of you who don’t have the current Marriott version, the card will launch on February 28 with a 100,000 point limited-time offer for new cardmembers ($5,000 spend requirement). The card will be contactless which means that you can just hold your card near a card reader, and the transaction happens almost instantly. It’s faster than a traditional swipe and current chip method. According to Chase, Chase contactless cards include secure EMV Chip technology, which has proven effective at reducing counterfeit fraud. If you are one who applies for this new card, you will receive the new card upon your application being approved. Current Marriott Premier Plus card members will receive their new card sometime within the year. All other benefits will remain the same for now and the fee will remain at $95.
Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Business Credit Card-will not be rebranded and come February 13, 2019, you will no longer be able to apply for this business card. However, for those of you that have the card there is an additional benefit where you will be to get an additional free night award (redemption level at or under 35,000 points) when you spend $60,000 or more on the Card annually. All of the other benefits and the $99 fee will remain the same. Important-As stated above, Chase will no longer accept new applications for the card after February 12, 2019. Only existing cardmembers as of February 13, 2019 will be able to have this card. This means if you want it, apply before February 12th!
Chase Marriott Bonvoy No Fee Card-will launch at some points this summer.
Chase Ritz Carlton Rewards card-which hasn’t been available to new applicants since the summer 🙁 will become the The Ritz-Carlton Card on February 13, 2019. One small change is that the $100 in property credit per stay you used to receive when you used your Card and a special rate code to book stays of two or more nights at Ritz-Carlton properties will now apply to St. Regis properties as well. The other benefits and $450 annual fee will remain the same.
