Know That Refunds From Prior Periods Will Offset Your Spend Requirements When You Are Going For Bonuses

I almost made a big mistake but I realized I was making it and saved myself.

Recall, I just got this offer with my American Express Business Platinum card to earn 25,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $5,000 on purchases and an extra 10,000 points after spending an additional $5,000 through 10/15/18.

I am in the process of spending on my Business Platinum so I can make that hefty $10,000 spend threshold.  However, I recently canceled flights that I had booked (with $) thru Amex travel.  Amex is refunding me the money for these flights during the same time period that I am spending to get up to the $10K.

I realized and confirmed with Amex that the credit I receive, for these flights, will reduce my purchases, even though the refund is from a prior period.

Ugh…now I have to spend even more.  But at least I realized it in advance.

Ok, off to go shopping! 🙂

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
