Back in 2009, we took our longest plane ride to date and made our first trip out west to San Diego. We stayed on Starwood points at the Sheraton La Jolla Hotel. This hotel is a Starwood Resort and a SPG Category 4. The room was 10,000 Starpoints per night. The hotel would have cost about $200 per night. We stayed 8 nights and got the 5th night free, as you do with all Starwood POINT STAYS. So we saved about $1,600 in savings ($200 x 8 nights)! The hotel was nice, it had a pool and it was located in gorgeous La Jolla. It was also really close to a Whole Foods which we frequented a lot for breakfast. Who knew they made egg sandwiches?
Our kids were young at the time of this trip. They were 7, 5 and 5. We did not need a crazy nice hotel, especially because with all there is to do in San Diego with kids, WE WERE NEVER IN THE HOTEL! We just needed a place to sleep.
We spent our days at the San Diego Zoo, the Safari Park, Disneyland, Sea World, LegoLand and Balboa Park.
One day we went on a Whale Watching tour. We explored and climbed on the rocks of beautiful La Jolla. We ate lots of Mexican food, hung out at the beach a few times and visited downtown San Diego as well. This is a great trip to take with kids! With all there is to do, even if you were in a fancy hotel, you may feel guilty spending your time at the hotel. I know I would!!!
