Unknown 3We are staying at 3 places in the Singapore area once we land from our FREE 18.5 direct flight from Newark to Singapore. Two of our hotels, within the city, I booked using points.

First, we are staying on Hilton Honors points at the Conrad Centennial Singapore.  I booked 2 rooms and each room was 60,000 Hilton Honors points per night.  The fifth night is free when you book on Hilton Honors points, so each room for 5 nights was 240,000 points.  The room would have cost about $240 per night, so in total, two rooms for 5 nights would have been 1200 per room or $2400 (you do not get the fifth night free when paying with cash).  Let’s see how I did in my value calculation.  Hilton Honors points are valued at about .6 of cent per point.  So the value of points that I used for this stay is $1440.  So in this case, I gained some value in using my points.

We are leaving Singapore in the middle of our stay for four nights on Bintan Island.  Here we are staying at the Banyan Tree (not on any points).  I will make sure this stay gets charged to my Chase Sapphire Reserve card.

We get back to Singapore for our final 2 nights which includes New Years Eve. By the time I had enough Hilton Honors points to book those 2 nights back at the Conrad, the hotel was sold out.  I think the hotel has a pretty good view of the NYE fireworks, so this makes sense.  So instead, we are staying at the Andaz Singapore.  We are staying in two rooms for 2 nights and the hotel was only 20,000 World of Hyatt points per night, so in total 80,000 points.  These rooms would have cost about $400 per night, so the two rooms for 2 nights would have been 800 per room or $1600. Now lets see how I did in my value calculation here.  World of Hyatt points are valued at about 1.7 cents per point. So the value of points that I used for this stay is about $1360.  The stay would have cost $1,600, so again, I gained a bit of value using my points! It deosn’t always happen like this, but when it does, I am quite pleased.

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
