Rob just got home from his annual boys ski weekend, that he takes with our boys.  They flew for free with American Airlines AAdvantage miles and stayed for free on Starwood Preferred Guest points.  They stayed at the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa in Beaver Creek.

But Rob did spend some money at the hotel.  He and the kids had breakfast every morning, one dinner in the hotel, as well as a small resort fee and some other miscellaneous charges.  The total amounted to close to $300.  I texted Rob while he was in Colorado, to remind him to use his American Express-Starwood Preferred Guest card to pay his bill upon checking out.Image 1

The reason I had him use this card is because we earn 2  Starwood Preferred Guest points per $1 spent at Starwood Resorts with the card.  Granted, I can earn 2 points per dollar spent had he used another one of our cards, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite MasterCard, but I really like Starwood points and when in Rome….

Also, in addition to these 2 points earned from our card, Rob and I are both gold members and therefore we earn 3x SPG points per dollar spent on Starwood Resort charges.  (We would have earned this 3x rate regardless of the credit card Rob used to pay for the charges. )

So we earned 5x points per dollar on all of the charges that Rob and the boys spent at the hotel over the weekend.   So we earned 1500 Starpoints.  Not so much, but every little bit counts when you are accumulating points to use for free travel!

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
