Rob and I are Aspen bound this summer for one of many trips for my 50th birthday.  Although we will likely pay for the hotel, (we want to stay at The Little Nell and I do not have enough Chase Ultimate Rewards or American Express Membership Rewards to book with those), we are not paying for our flights.  Rob and I still fly separate (silly I know), but in this case, I did not have enough miles anywhere to book us together so if we wanted to travel for free, we needed to separate anyway.  Here are the details of our free flights….
My flight-I used 60,000 American AAdvantage miles for my flight to Aspen on American Airlines.  This flight, had I paid, would have cost $1,214.

Rob’s flight-I used 76,100 American Express Membership Rewards for Rob’s flight on United.  This flight, had I paid, would have cost $761.

I do not even want to do the value calculation.  I don’t care.  I easily got those 60,000 American Miles from merely getting the Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite MasterCard a few months back.  As for the Amex points, we earn them pretty easily as Rob uses his Amex for most of his business expenses, like advertising.  We usually have a nice supply of Amex points.  Although now between Morocco and this flight we are a little light. 🙂

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
