And I still continue to make mistakes at times!
I recently wrote about how I was excited about adding a Citi Rewards+ card to my Citi ThankYou card portfolio. I recently went for the card after being reminded about the 10% Points Back rebate feature for the first 100,000 ThankYou Points you redeem per year.
The bonus I took advantage of was that I needed to spend $1k in 3 months for a 15,000 point bonus and I bragged about getting the 15k points for free as the card has no fee. However, the joke is now on me.
I forgot about this one Citibank rule in relation to sign-up bonuses….
All of the terms of the Citibank ThankYou cards state the following:
Bonus ThankYou Points are not available if you received a new cardmember bonus for a ThankYou card, or if you have closed any of these accounts, in the past 24 months.
Well guess what? I got the Citi ThankYou Premier Card back in December 2018. With some quick math, I can positively state that December 2018 till now is a mere 17 months. I will surely be precluded from getting the 15,000 point bonus, although I will definitely play dumb and try. I am not hopeful!
Ugh! I could have waited another 6 months to apply! I didn’t really need the card yet as I don’t plan to redeem my Citi ThankYou points for quite some time so I won’t even benefit from the 10% rebate!!
