Due to the virus, United is reducing status qualifications by 50% for 2021. This means that travels you already completed this year, as well as any travel you take later this year, can help you reach a higher status for next year. You’ll still need a minimum of four flight segments on United or United Express no matter which method or level helps you attain status.

The new requirements are as follows:

SILVER you will need 6 PQF and 2,000 PQP or 2500 PQP

GOLD you will need 12 PQF and 4,000 PQP or 5,000 PQP

PLATINUM you will need 18 PQF and 6,000 PQP or 7500 PQP

1K you will need 26 PQF and 9,000 PQP or 12,000 PQP (Lifetime status when you reach 1 million miles)

United is also doubling PQP for the United Explorer cards and quadrupling PQP for the United Club cards.

Right now those requirements look like this and United will offer details as to new required amounts.

With the Chase United Explorer Card, Chase United MileagePlus Club Card, Chase United MileagePlus Explorer Business Visa, Chase United MileagePlus Club Business Card, United MileagePlus Awards Card, United MileagePlus Card, and United MileagePlus Business Card you earn 500 PQP for every $12,000 in card spend, up to 1,000 PQP in a calendar year, that can be applied up to Platinum.

With the United MileagePlus Select Card and United MileagePlus Platinum Class Visa Card you earn 500 PQP for every $12,000 in card spend, up to 3,000 PQP in a calendar year, that can be applied up to 1K.

With the United Presidential Plus Card and United Presidential Plus Business Card you earn 500 PQP for every $12,000 in card spend, up to 10,000 PQP in a calendar year, that can be applied up to 1K.

Finally, United indicates that they will be making it easier to earn status in 2021 for the 2022 program year because they recognize that getting back to travel will occur at a different pace for different members. Details to come.

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
