Daniel and Rob after having just finished a Spartan Sprint last June

My 14 year old son along with some of his friends, have discovered Spartan races.  A Spartan race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to marathon distances.  The series include the Spartan Sprint, the Super Spartan, the Spartan Beast, and the Ultra Beast.  Daniel and his friends want to eventually do them all!  A worthy goal, IMO.

I typically don’t consider myself a nervous parent, but for Daniel’s first Spartan (pictured above), I enlisted Rob to do it with him as somewhat of a chaperone…just in case… Well, Rob was bit by the bug as well and now the two of them with a few other boys are headed to Boston to do a Spartan race at Fenway Park. (They are doing another Sprint, for now…).

Daniel will be staying with friends in Boston.  Rob will be spending the night in Boston at the InterContinental Boston FOR FREE!  I mean really free, I did not even need to use IHG Rewards points for the room.

You see, if you have the Chase IHG Rewards Club Select credit card, like I do, you receive 1 free night at any IHG hotel every year after your cardmember anniversary.  The night must be redeemed, and the stay must be completed, within 12 months from date of issue.  The night would have cost $440 had we paid for the night.

I was actually a bit concerned as to how I was going to use this award night before the expiration date.  Recall, in the past, I have had to get creative with some free nights that were due to expire.  However, I don’t have to worry anymore.  Rob will deserve the FREE good night’s rest after the race!

Hmm, now what will I do with my anniversary night next year?  🙂

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
