Shopping for visiting day? It’s time for my annual visiting day post!

Try to maximize rewards as you shop.  Certain cards offer bonus rewards at specific retailers.  However, I want to emphasize, that if you are partial to certain cards or rewards programs, continue using those cards.  The following suggestions are merely to inform you that earning extra rewards is an option.  You don’t want to wind up with a bunch of little balances containing different points/miles that you can’t use for anything.  It’s better to build up a big pot of the same rewards even if you are earning at a 1:1 ratio.  However, if you can earn a greater ratio while accumulating the rewards you want…here are some suggestions on how to accomplish this…

If you find yourself constantly going to the supermarket before visiting day, consider breaking out one of these cards.

If you want to accumulate American Express Membership Rewards points, use one of these cards for visiting day items..

American Express Premier Rewards Gold card-2x points per $1 spent at supermarkets

American Express Everyday Credit card-2x points per $1 spent at supermarkets

Amex Everyday Preferred card-3x points per $1 spent at supermarkets

Prefer cash back?  With the American Express Blue Cash Preferred Card and the American Express Blue Cash Everyday Card, you earn 6% and 3% cash back respectively at supermarkets.

Maybe you want to bulk up your Hilton Honors points balance.  If you have certain Hilton Honors cards, think about using them.  Let’s look at some of the cards:

Hilton Honors American Express Card is a Credit Card-5x points per $1 spent at supermarkets

Hilton Honors American Express Ascend Card -6x points per $1 spent at supermarkets

Some other cards that offer bonus points at supermarkets that you may consider using if you are in the market for IHG Rewards points or TrueBlue points are as follows:

Chase IHG Rewards Cards-2x points per $1 spent at supermarkets

Barclays Bank JetBlue cards-2x points per $1 spent at supermarkets

Shopping in other places besides supermarkets for visiting day?

Do you want to accumulate Chase Ultimate Rewards Points?  My go to card that I use for mostly all of my purchases (unless I can do better with a different card) is the Chase Freedom Unlimited card. With that card, I earn 1.5 UR points per $1 on EVERY PURCHASE.

Other cards, like the Capital One Venture cardsBarclays Arrival Cards, as well as some other airline and hotel cards offer a better than 1:1 ratio on ALL PURCHASES.

Lastly, let’s not forget about the Chase Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card where you can earn 2% back at drugstores like Walgreens, Duane Reade, etc.  You can get LOTS of visiting day stuff at a drugstore.

Once again, I am only giving you ideas as to how to earn extra rewards.  Think about your individual spending habits and what your goals are in order to maximize your rewards.  You may love your cash back card, or may be partial to a specific loyalty program card.

Have a great visiting day everyone and happy shopping!

A huge shout out to CINDY GREENSTEIN, aka The Points Mom, for helping me book our flights to Greece using points. Money wise it would have cost $12k. I learned so much from her! Contact her. You will not be disappointed.
