Why Hyatt Globalist Status Feels Like Winning the Travel Jackpot

Hyatt Globalist status is, hands down, my favorite hotel loyalty status, and I never want to lose it. Here are all the reasons why I love it and why I go out of my way to maintain it every year:

1. Free Breakfast for Me and My Guests

One of the best perks of being a Hyatt Globalist is getting free breakfast—not just for me, but for whoever is traveling with me. This benefit can cover up to four people, which is a huge money-saver, especially at high-end Hyatt properties where breakfast can be pricey. On our last trip to the Grand Hyatt Indian Wells, Mason stayed with us, and we all enjoyed complimentary breakfast each morning.

2. Free Parking & No Resort Fees

This perk feels almost unfair, but I love it. Often, when booking stays with points, Globalists don’t have to pay resort fees or parking fees. It’s crazy to think that people who pay cash for the same rooms still have to cover these extra costs, while those of us using points get them waived. Free parking is particularly valuable in cities where it can be extremely expensive. For example, at the Andaz West Hollywood, we saved a significant amount by avoiding their hefty parking fee.

3. Complimentary Room Upgrades (Often to Suites!)

I can’t even count how many times I’ve received suite upgrades as a Globalist. It happens so often that I’ve lost track, but I always post them on my Instagram—so if you really wanted to count, you could check there! The excitement of checking in and hearing, “We’ve upgraded you to a suite,” never gets old.

4. Confirmable Suite Upgrades

If I’m ever nervous about whether I’ll get an upgrade upon arrival, I have a backup plan—Globalist members receive a set number of confirmed suite upgrades each year (up to 7 nights per upgrade). These allow me to lock in a suite ahead of time instead of waiting and hoping for availability at check-in. I tend to hoard these a little too much, trying to save them for the “perfect” trip, which sometimes leaves me scrambling to use them before they expire at the end of the year. Occasionally, I’ll even gift them to friends or family if I know I won’t be able to use them all.

5. Dedicated Hyatt Globalist Concierge

I email my Globalist concierge at least once a month, and they are incredibly helpful with any issues related to my account, booking stays, and ensuring I get the best experience possible. Having a direct contact who understands my travel preferences and can handle any complications is a huge stress reliever. And they help me with my favorite perk of being a Globalist, which is…

6. Points Advance Booking

This is, hands down, my favorite perk. As a Globalist, I can book most Hyatt properties on a points advance, meaning I don’t need to have the points in my account at the time of booking. This makes planning future trips so much easier—I can lock in stays at aspirational properties and then work on earning the points later. This flexibility is invaluable, especially when trying to secure award availability at peak times.

7. Guest of Honor Awards – Sharing the Perks

One of the most unique benefits of Hyatt Globalist status is the ability to share it with others through the Guest of Honor program. When I book a stay for someone else using my points, they receive full Globalist benefits—including free breakfast, waived resort fees, free parking, and room upgrades—just as if they were me. It’s an amazing way to treat family and friends to a VIP experience, and I love being able to spread the Hyatt love!

This May, my son is graduating from USC, and we’ll be celebrating in Los Angeles with a stay at the Hotel Figueroa, conveniently located in Downtown LA. Naturally, I booked my own room where I’ll enjoy my usual Globalist perks, but I also needed three additional rooms for my other kids, my sister and her husband, and my mom. Booking the rooms on points was easy since I always have access to Hyatt points thanks to my ability to transfer from flexible programs like Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt.

However, my goal wasn’t just to book their rooms—I wanted them to have the same top-tier Globalist benefits I enjoy. Free breakfast alone can be a major cost saver, especially when covering five extra people for three days. That’s where Hyatt’s Guest of Honor awards came in handy. By applying a GOH award to each of their rooms, they’ll now receive the full Globalist treatment, including complimentary breakfast, late checkout, and potential room upgrades. Being able to extend this experience to my family makes the celebration even more special.

8. How I Maintain Globalist Status

With all these amazing perks, you might be wondering why everyone isn’t a Globalist. Well, it’s not easy! Globalist status requires 60 qualifying nights per year. These nights can be earned by staying at Hyatt properties or through spending on the Hyatt co-branded credit card. I also get one night every time I give out a Guest of Honor award, but just one night despite the length of the Guest of Honor stay.

I typically reach about 30 nights per year through actual hotel stays. To bridge the gap, I strategically use my Hyatt credit card, especially in the fall, to earn the remaining nights needed to qualify. Occasionally, I get lucky and take advantage of Hyatt’s double-night promotions, but those don’t come around very often. This marks my fourth consecutive year as a Globalist, and I plan to keep the streak going!

Hyatt Globalist status completely changes the way I travel. The combination of free breakfast, waived fees, suite upgrades, and elite-level service makes it more than worth the effort to maintain. If you love maximizing travel value, this is one of the best statuses out there!
